Well written Anthony. You articulate the sort of “fools gold” showings we’ve witnessed the last two years perfectly. And you’re assessment that this year has atleast a better air of legitimacy is spot on. You’re a fantastic baseball writer. That being said the rotation will betray us, most notably Jimenez. Perez will not be the closer by September. Reynolds will produce a strikeout laden stretch of a cold streak. But they will be incrimentally better and fun to watch. Just like you said! 82-80. 12 games out.

I went to the series at Fenway last year (they were 18-13 @ the time) and a Boston fan asked me if they would win the Cental. I responded ‘no way.’ Acta could do something Wedge couldn’t – start hot. But then – fade….This year’s club has everything the previous year’s didn’t – veteran leadership, right handed hitting, defense, the ability to avoid long losing streaks. Asked that question this season – “maybe”

I don’t think anyone actually expected the rotation to be unpredictable in this way. I think it was hoping it was average and fearing it would be bad and now it’s hoping it will be really good and fearing it will be average. I’m sure no longer feeling like they have to be perfect all the time helps a lot.

What amazes me about this team is how deep our bullpen is. The back 3 are the back 3 we know and love, but Allen, Shaw, and Hill have been fantastic. That’s six guys I have complete faith in. How many other teams can say they have six guys in their bullpen that can get the job done? It’s unbelievable.
