The Indians made a move involving Kerry Wood on Saturday, but it wasn’t the pre-Deadline trade so many are anticipating.
Rather, Wood is headed to the disabled list, retroactive to July 12, with a blister on his right index finger. Jensen Lewis has been promoted from Triple-A Columbus to replace him, with Chris Perez taking over in the closer’s role.
Wood didn’t even suit up for last night’s game. But this injury is not considered an Adam Miller-type blister. Doesn’t sound serious.
Wood is 1-4 with a 6.30 ERA in 23 appearances, converting eight saves in 11 opportunities. This is his 14th DL trip in his career and second this season.
Lewis is making his third stint with the Tribe this year. He is 2-0 with a 2.30 ERA in 12 appearances in Triple-A Columbus and 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA up here.
