6/24: Indians at Phillies

It’s a scorcher in Philly. Temperatures expected to reach 97, with a heat index somewhere north of “convection oven.”

Today’s 1:05 p.m. ET game is on WTAM and STO.

that Nix pickup is puzzling to say the least. Valbuena should be sent down, sure, would’ve made a lot more sense to send Valbuena down when I first said they should at the end of April, but why pick up Nix rather than adding Josh Rodriguez to the roster and promoting him? If you like Rodriguez well enough to draft him in the second round, and he’s performing great in AAA, why in the world are they going with some dude who they KNOW can’t hit instead? It’s the Jordan Brown scenario all over again, if one of your PROSPECTS who you drafted is performing if anything better than you expected, why are you calling up non-prospects instead?

I agree ST. The moves by this FO are puzzling.

Also why did Santana start in a day game after a night game when the temp is 96 degrees?

Are they trying to run our best prospect into the ground in a non contending year?

You know, for as much as I may curse my father for raising me as a Tribe fan, I have to thank him for also raising me to love the game of soccer, because right now the World Cup is keeping me away from this god awful baseball team of ours.

you bring up a significant point duane. Despite the fact that Santana caught Carmona’s last outing I was as surprised as you were that Redmond wasn’t catching given the circumstances.

ST, would you expect anything different from this gang of often questioned leaders? I mean seriously. We all were scratching our heads when the Shane Lindsay pickup occurred and now they designate him? We were clamoring for LaPorta to get everyday ABs, particuarly at 1B in Columbus long before he was sent down. We asked for Donald’s promotion about 3 weeks before it happened and the reasoning there was an unfortunate long term injury. I am not saying that we all would be a successful GM as we ponder thoughts about the roster from our armchairs but I do still wonder what is the logic of our FO personnel.

LACF, I second your notion. I took off of work for 3 days simply to drink and watch the U.S. play, not to mention the 7am, 10am and 2:30pm time schedules here on the east coast are the best possible times for my second shift job. Ad I almost had a heart attack and aneurysm during that Algeria game.

I wonder, given the Cubs’ problems with Carlos Zambrano, who has a huge contract, if they’d consider a swap for Kerry Wood. Both pitchers might benefit from a change in scenery, the salaries aren’t too far apart this year, and if Zambrano shows anything the Tribe could trade him in the offseason.
It’s the only thing I can think of that might help us move Wood, who I fear will still be here at the end of the year.
