6/2: Indians at Tigers

The tarp is on the field at Comerica Park, but the radar shows a cloud of green creeping out of here by tonight’s 7:05 p.m. ET first pitch. If the radar is correct, tonight’s game will be on STO (with yours truly joining in on the pregame show) and WTAM.

cle5.gifINDIANS (19-31):
CF Crowe, RF Choo, LF Kearns, DH Hafner, 3B Peralta, 1B Branyan, 2B Grudzielanek, C Redmond, SS Donald. RHP Fausto Carmona (4-3, 3.69).

det2.gifTIGERS (26-25):
CF Jackson, LF Damon, RF Ordonez, 1B Cabrera, DH Boesch, 2B Guillen, 3B Inge, C Avila, SS Santiago. RHP Armando Galarraga (1-1, 4.50).

Is Matt LaPorta going to get any playing time this week? Acta sure seems to like him on the bench ? which flies in the face of his offseason comments.

I can’t complain too much about Branyan and Kearns’ numbers so far, but based on the team we have, it does bring to question why the team signed those guys rather than give more time to look at guys like Laporta at the major league level. I guess my hope is, and maybe this was the plan all along, that Branyan and Kearns put up good numbers, become good trade bait, bring in a couple decent prospects, and Laporta can play everyday in the second half, but I guess we will se.

I hope thats just a ‘he doesn’t get enough time’ iyo. Cause in the last 10 games…

He is playing every other day. I think it is because of that toe and hip surgery (more toe then hip) that they are playing him this way.

Btw Anthony, apparently STO is off the air, cause I have it on and its a blank screen, and yep correct channel. So I have had to use Gameday. I don’t know if others are having this problem…

NINTH INNING JINX!!! (will cross fingers when done typing.)

I am definitely going to h3ll, because I just realized that sometimes when your team loses you can feel ever better than you do when they win.

wow, that game was just the epitome of the awfulness of the Indians. Grudz almost broke up the perfect game with his first extra base hit, but doesn’t have quite enough power to get it over an outfielder’s head. Bad defense that made a play closer than it should have inflated Carmona’s ERA. I actually thought Carmona pitched just as good as Galarraga, but the Indians hitters were worse and unluckier

Yes, I feel awful for everyone involved, but the focus seems to be on Galarraga and Joyce. I feel bad for Donald. Who knows how his career will pan out, but there’s now a chance that he could end up the answer to a trivia question. Tough break for a rookie, particularly one who plays so hard.
christopherw, you’d have to guess that what you said is the plan, but if it was always the plan they probably shouldn’t have pretended like they were going to use LaPorta every day. I don’t think they had any idea Kearns would be even remotely decent, though. At this point, with trades already starting, they might as well just keep LaPorta around, as he’ll probably be starting every day here pretty soon, anyway.
