6/1: Indians vs. Yankees

Tonight’s 7:05 p.m. ET game at Progressive Field will air on WTAM and ESPN. Victor Martinez is back in the Tribe’s lineup (albeit in the DH role), two days after fouling a pitch off his left knee.

cle.gifINDIANS (22-30):
SS Asdrubal Cabrera, CF Ben Francisco, DH Victor Martinez, RF Shin-Soo Choo, 3B Jhonny Peralta, LF Mark DeRosa, 1B Ryan Garko, 2B Jamey Carroll, C Kelly Shoppach. LHP Jeremy Sowers (1-2, 7.71).

nyy.gifYANKEES (29-21):
SS Derek Jeter, RF Nick Swisher, 1B Mark Teixeira, DH Alex Rodriguez, C Jorge Posada, 2B Robinson Cano, LF Melky Cabrera, 3B Angel Berroa, CF Brett Gardner. RHP Joba Chamberlain (2-1, 3.97).

You know what’s shocking? I’m pretty happy with this line up. I think it’s the best possible line up we could have, given the circumstances. And I’m very happy to see Victor at least getting in to hit.
I can’t say that I have a lot of faith in Sowers. If he makes it five innings, we should pull him, regardless of the situation!

I probably would have started Gimenez in place of Shoppach because of his 4-K game yesterday, but otherwise I agree with you, Los Angeles.

But honestly guys…what is the point of Valbuena being here if we aren’t even going to start him against EVERY righty (which, last I checked, Joba is)? I don’t get it. I never get Wedge. He said he would play Luis at least against righties. I’m not calling him a liar or incompetent, but…I don’t know how to finish this sentence.

Now we get to watch Gimenez waste away on the bench. Good god Sowers against the Yanks? Could get ugly immediately.

I don’t think Gimenez will waste away on the bench. He’s only here just in case, and the fact that Victor is already back in the line up tonight (albeit as DH) seems to suggest that Gimenez won’t be around long (unless they finally trade Shoppach).
I’ve always been confused as to why Valbuena is on the roster when he could be getting every day starts in Columbus. That said, I can’t make my “DeRosa should play second” argument now that DeRosa’s getting time in the OF.
My guess is that Carroll is getting the nod because he’s hitting 100 points higher than Valbuena and we’ll probably need to score a lot of runs with Sowers as our starter.
Sad, but true.
