Sizemore to DL, Gimenez promoted

Grady Sizemore’s sore left elbow isn’t getting any better, and the Tribe’s three-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner is headed to the disabled list for the first time in his career.

To replace Sizemore on the active roster, the versatile Chris Gimenez was promoted from Triple-A Columbus. This is Gimenez’s first exposure to the bigs.

The Gimenez promotion helps the Tribe on two fronts, because he can play the corner outfield and serve as the backup catcher while Victor Martinez nurses his bruised left knee. Martinez said he is still very sore and unable to play. He remains day to day.

Sizemore has played just three games in center field since May 16 because of the elbow problem, which he said bothered him most on throws.

So where do we trade Cliff Lee and what kind of young talent are we looking for? I’m not trying to be pessimistic, but we’re going to have a heckuva time trying to win ball games without Grady, Hafner, and Victor.

We have a cheap option for Lee for next season – why would we trade him now? I don’t understand why this keeps coming up. If they were to trade him this season, they should get two good quality, major league ready starters for him, plus at least four solid prospects, depending on their level in the minors. But if they do trade him this season, I think I’ll be done as an Indians fan.

Yeah, I’m tired of hearing that. And speaking of having a hard time winning ball games, losing Cliff Lee will surely only help expedite that. We’ve still got a lot of season to play, and let’s not forget about 2010.
