Opening Day roster (essentially) set

No roster move was made with regard to the pitching staff, but Vinnie Chulk will be reassigned to Columbus. Right-hander Matt Herges, catcher Damaso Espino, and infielders Andy Marte, Wilson Valdez and Tony Graffanino will also be reassigned to Columbus, but all those guys will first make the trip with the Indians to Houston for the last two exhibition games this weekend. Ed Mujica will be designated for assignment.

The Indians’ 25-man roster, in case you lost track, will look like this on April 6:

Catchers: Victor Martinez, Kelly Shoppach

Infielders: Josh Barfield, Asdrubal Cabrera, Jamey Carroll, Mark DeRosa, Ryan Garko, Travis Hafner, Jhonny Peralta

Outfielders: Shin-Soo Choo, Trevor Crowe, Ben Francisco, Grady Sizemore

Starting pitchers: Cliff Lee, Fausto Carmona, Carl Pavano, Scott Lewis, Anthony Reyes

Relievers: Rafael Betancourt, Zach Jackson, Masa Kobayashi, Jensen Lewis, Rafael Perez, Joe Smith, Kerry Wood

DL: David Dellucci, Jake Westbrook

Thanks for the clarification… It was getting pretty difficult to keep track!!

I like Barfield and understand he is a nice kid, but if he isn’t going to play regularly he shouldn’t be up. He is not a utility man. If he struggles in the first half it’s time to bring up Hodges or LaPorta and give them a shot. Derosa then to utility who would be one of the best in baseball in that role.

Poor Michael Aubrey. Great spring yet zero chance to make the Major League roster. The Indians have so many good young players that would be getting a shot this year somewhere else, but instead will get a year older in the minors. . Shows you one of the not-so-easy parts about playing baseball for a living.
