Garko in the OF?!

Yes, I wrote this story.

No, it’s not April 1.

And no, I don’t expect it to work out. Probably just a few reps, here and there, and then a return to normalcy, I imagine.

Barfield in the outfield, on the other hand? That might be doable.

The chance to see Gark play the outfield may be worth the trip to Arizona next month! It’s hard to imagine that experiment will last long.

I found Wedge’s response to the question in yesterday’s Q&A session about Peralta moving to 3B interesting. You quote him as saying “the Indians would have moved Peralta if they acquired a shortstop or second baseman this offseason, and he believes Peralta can handle the hot corner”. Did no one follow by pointing out that DeRosa’s primary position with the Cubs the past two years has been 2B? I know I’m far from the first to suggest this, but it seems to me that they’d be much better defensively with DeRosa at 2B, Cabrera at SS and Peralta at 3B. No matter what Wedge says, Jhonny’s a definite liability at short.

I love Garko, but you know those moments when he always stumbles rounding the bases? At least twice a year? Prepare for that in the outfield.

Garko > Hafner.

Garko > Hafner, in every baseball aspect except salary.

Haha, you’re right CS. I was at an Indians vs. Rangers game in Arlington two years ago and Garko had a sure double. However, he tripped on first base and fell flat on his face. Luckily, he made it back to first safe before being thrown out. Keeping Garko around as a 1b/DH/C platoon player is a much better option than the OF. Good grief.
It looks like the only solid spot we have in the field is Grady in center. The lineup is going to be different for all positions every other night.

Imho, it’s too soon to write off Hafner. He deserves the benefit of the doubt since he was clearly trying to play through injury last season. Let’s hope that Dr. Andrews worked his magic and some semblance of the pre-injury Pronk returns. Garko will never come close to Pronk’s 2004-2006 production. But I have to admit that visions of Balco flashed through my mind when I read of the “slimmed down” Travis at his press conference yesterday.

Can any of our hitters pitch ???? Marte maybe ????

Barfield in the outfield ??? his d at 2nd is his best tool !

I agree Fuzzy. The Indians have been trying to develop a power hitting corner OF, hardly seems like a plan. IMO Garko should be the odd man out. I’d like Victor at 1st and Shop catching. Garko’s bat is not dazzling enough to cover up his modestly improved D.

We need to trade from areas of strength (OF & 1B) for another SP.

oh, never mind. I was just going to say, where is all the talent developed by Shapiro that he gets credit for by the experts and how did Barfield have talent before the tribe and do you think the tribe will sign ben broussard for the power OF and could we get kouzmanoff back for garko and seven other guys. or maybe, Mickey Hall will help.
or maybe a holler out to jason dubois or jason michaels or jason dellucci or jason ludwick or jason nixon or ……. if the tribe accumulated all the money spent on 1 in 1000 odds guys, how much would we still need to get jason bay?
oh, never mind

Just wanna remark that you have a very nice site, I the style it really stands out.
