Here comes Cabrera

Asdrubal Cabrera will rejoin the Indians at a workout at Progressive Field today, as the club gets ready to head off to Seattle and the second half of the season. Jorge Velandia has been outrighted off the 40-man roster and sent to Triple-A Buffalo.

Cabrera was the everyday second baseman from the outset of the season but batted just .184 and was optioned to Buffalo on June 9. With the Bisons, he hit .326 (46-for-141) with four homers, seven doubles and 13 RBIs in 34 games. He was the International League batter of the week last week.

Cabrera played 29 games at short and just six at second base for Buffalo. Surprisingly, he made 10 errors in his time there. The Indians have insisted that nothing should be read into Cabrera getting the majority of his time at short, but you never know.

It’s about time that Cabrera got called back up. Hopefully his swing is fixed and he’ll play more like the Cabrera from last season.

I’m glad A-Cab is coming back. I missed seeing him on the field. Hopefully he’ll carry the same momentum from Triple A to the majors.

I’m glad Wedgie didn’t make any rash decisions and kept Cabrera in Buffalo (not that I’d wish that on anyone) to straighten out. It gave him time to really focus and get back to where he should be.

So will we see it this season or next season:
1) Cabrera
2) Barfield
3) Sizemore

A gal can dream, can’t she?

Any thoughts on what will be done with the open slot on the 40 man roster?

Let’s hope Peralta gets some time at DH now.

Bern1025, what has Barfield done to de-throne Carroll?

No one has done much to “dethrone” Carroll, he’s been pretty stellar. But lets face it, if I were Wedge I’d have ACab at SS and Barfield at 2B as much as I could.. no better time to see what we have for the future than right now. Especially with Barfield, cuz if he still can’t cut it I’m betting he gets moved.

kvanderneut: Carroll hasn’t done anything to lose his spot, but if we’re using the rest of 2008 as the unofficial Gong Show, I’d like to see what that middle infield combo can do. I love what Jamey has done this season – but he was brought here as a reserve, correct?

He was, but I think he’s earned the every day job. And we have the option on him for next year, so there’s no reason to pull him.
