Mastny coming back

Tom Mastny will be joining the Indians here in Chicago for his third stint with the big-league club in ’08. A corresponding roster move has not yet been announced.

Mastny is 1-0 with a 1.79 ERA in 19 relief appearances for the Bisons this season, striking out 34 and walking eight in 26 1/3 innings.

With the Indians earlier this year, Mastny went 0-1 with a 21.00 ERA in three appearances, including a brief spot start in Texas on June 3.

I’ll post the corresponding move as soon as I can.

UPDATE (7:15 p.m. ET): As mentioned below, the corresponding move is Scott Elarton going on the restricted list for an indefinite period of time. Eric Wedge and media relations director Bart Swain did not wish to go into specifics as to why Elarton had to leave the club (he made the trip to Chicago but flew back to Cleveland today). “Personal reasons” was the only explanation given. Wedge could not say how long to expect to be without Elarton’s services.

Here’s hoping everything is all right with Scott.

AC, any news on Fausto?

If it is not Rick Bauer, there is no God.

Actually, there’s another report that it’s Elarton (“for personal reasons”), so it’s atheism for me.

Mastny was going to get the call at some point — he’s really done good stuff in Buffalo since getting sent back down.

Jensen Lewis, however…
