Mastny starts tonight

The Indians have announced that RHP Tom Mastny will get tonight’s start against the Rangers.

Mastny is a starter-turned-reliever who will get his first starting nod at the big-league level. He’s making an emergency start in place of the injured Jake Westbrook, who is headed to the 15-day disabled list. The Indians called Mastny up on Monday to round out their bullpen. He had given up just one earned run over his last nine innings of work at Buffalo.

So, obviously, the Indians are going with the option of tossing a bunch of relievers out there tonight and hoping for the best. And I’m sure they’ll get Jeremy Sowers lined up at Buffalo to come up and rejoin the rotation, with Westbrook out.

UPDATE: RHP Jensen Lewis is getting the call from Buffalo, as Westbrook is officially moved to the DL. Lewis was sent down a couple weeks back to get his velocity and command back in order. The Indians needed an extra bullpen arm for this week, as they’ll have to burn through several guys to get through tonight’s game. Lewis gave up two runs in four innings of work at Buffalo. He had a 3.58 ERA in 20 appearances up here before his May 24 demotion.

Why does have Brian Siocum listed as the starter tonight, then? Thanks.

If they had it up earlier they’ve fixed it, Mastny is now slated.

I’d been trying to compare this team to 2005 rather than 2006 and I hope I’m right. I did a little research of my own and found that these next two weeks are going to be vital to the Tribe. Check it out:

June 4th, 2005: 25-29 (4th in Central, 11.5 GB, 214 Runs)
June 4th, 2006: 28-28 (3rd in Central, 8.5 GB, 324 Runs)
June 3rd, 2008: 26-31 (3rd in Central, 4.5 GB, 239 Runs)

Now fast-forward two weeks:
June 19th, 2005: 37-30 (3rd in Central, 8.5 GB, 291 Runs)
June 19th, 2006: 31-38 (4th in Central, 15 GB, 385 Runs)
2008: ?????????

So this is a crucial 2 weeks:
In 2005: 12-1, scored 77 runs
In 2006: 3-10, scored 61 runs

I did not pick June 4th for this reason … but June 4th, 2005 was the day Eddie Murray was fired as the hitting coach and he was replaced with Derek Shelton…

So no texas lyrics to kickoff the lone star part of our roadtrip…. There’s some great lyrics out there…
Jerry Jeff Walker “I wanna go home with the Armadilla, good country music from Amarillo and Abilene”
Robert Earl Keen ” I don’t wear no stetson, but I’m willing to bet son, that I’m as big a Texan as you are”
Jimmie Dale Gilmore (and many others) “have you ever seen Dallas from a DC9 at night”
Grateful Dead “Dallas – got a soft machine, Houston to close to New Orleans”
Please go easy on the Detroit Rock City references for the trip to the state up north

No matter who is starting tonight, the Tribe better bring the lumber. I hope last night wasn’t a 1 – hit wonder…

It was actually a 16 hit wonder. And, my hope stemming from last night is that wedge leaves the lineup alone tonight. Im sure the team is excited about last night, and i see it as an opportunity for all of them to get back in there tonight with a rare sense of things being familiar and repeat it. Im gonna go out on a limb and say that we probably wont be seeing that. But, i wait in patience for the posting by Castrovince of tonights lineup with hope in my heart that Wedge didnt get the ole “lets change her up” mentality. Speaking of. Hey Anthony, how soon before the games start do you get around to posting the lineups?

STill no Bauer! What a waste!

You’ll see Bauer shortly, IMO. Mastny/Lewis might get sent down depending on how many innings they throw tonight, until Sowers is lined up for the next spot. So, it wouldn’t surprise me to see both sent down, Adam Miller recalled and put on the 60-day DL, Bauer called up and placed on the 40-man roster and a hitter called up (Barfield?) as well.
